Even before starting this album I had heard the song Faith from Dylan and I always loved that song. But being able to be the one who put the drums to that song was an amazing feeling. But more so the more and more we rehearsed the song the more the lyrics impacted my life. “Faith” is a song that declares the rising of your Faith in the God who can make new out of nothing. I am so excited to have this song during my devotion time. And I can bet you will too.

Holy Spirit Come Down
I was really skeptical about this song when I first read the lyrics. It seemed so short, so obvious, maybe even a little shallow. Funny enough, this has turned out to be one of the most powerful songs for me.
I remember playing it together for the first time. We had an anticipation for it after hearing Dylan play it on his guitar. I could kind of hear what I wanted to play, but it wasn’t coming out well. Dylan walked out for a minute to walk his family out to the car and the rest of the band just kept playing over the chords, singing the song in our heads, trying to get the song to the place that just fits like a key in a lock. I remember when we found that spot, the energy was so strong it was almost tangible. Its such a heart cry of a song, its so hard to not play it with your whole heart engaged in it. When Dylan came back in he felt it and ran down the sanctuary, hopped on stage, and just belted it the way we were all feeling it. It’s the kind of song I could play for hours. And that’s the way it is when the Holy Spirit comes down. There is a passion, and a reaching, and a fulfillment unlike any other.
I think there is a lot of power in simple things because they are so relatable. Complicated things have simple roots. I always think of God as vastly complicated, but the more I get to know him the more I am surprised by the simplicity of his intentions and desires. It’s the same with our hearts and desires. “Holy Spirit come down, Holy Spirit fill me now, Open up my heart for You, Open up the heavens wide.” Who doesn’t want that? Those things are the simple roots of our more complicated desires. I have a hunch that almost anything you want from God can be sifted down and solved by at least one, if not all, of those things. Maybe its just me, but this song satisfies a cry of my heart in a way I’ve never sung about before. I think it’s also so powerful because its an invitation for God to inhabit every aspect of our lives: earth, our soul, our hearts, the heavens.
